On July 5th, to mark the 30th anniversary of the Berlin-Beijing partnership, the renowned Berlin-based breakdance group Flying Steps kicked off their inaugural tour through China. The German Embassy, VisitBerlin, and the Berlin Business Desk China hosted a memorable welcome reception at Aotuspace in Beijing’s Dongcheng District.
Our office is happy to welcome guests from Berlin again in Beijing, specially in this special year.
The event featured a warm welcome speech by the German Ambassador, Dr. Flor, and was attended by several German Consuls General in China. Dr. Lutz Henke, representing VisitBerlin, highlighted the significance of Flying Steps' visit to China for Berlin.
The reception was electrified by a breathtaking performance from three Flying Steps dancers, whose passion and precision perfectly synchronized with the beat of the music. Beijing-based artists also dazzled the audience with their hip-hop performance, culminating in an impromptu dance battle that celebrated the vibrant cultural exchange between the two cities. The audience was captivated, applauding and cheering with infectious enthusiasm.
Flying Steps, founded on Berlin's Kufürstendamm Street in 1993, quickly rose to fame by winning Best of the Year just one year later. They specialize in interpreting classical music with a variety of street dance/breakdance twirls. It's worth noting that this year, for the first time, street dance/breakdancing will be an Olympic sport at the 2024 Paris Olympics!
Berlin is a young, diverse, and inclusive city, rich in history, modern art, and entrepreneurial spirit. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all our guests and look forward to even closer cooperation and exchanges between Berlin and Beijing as we celebrate this milestone anniversary.
Here's to a more prosperous and brighter future together!
Welcome to Berlin!
