On November 18th, the Berlin Business Desk China (BBDC) and the “Berlin Ambassadors China” for the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle, Choco H. Zhang and Alexander Glaser, the founders of prespace ARCHITEKTEN, held the “Berlin in China” event in Chengdu about the topic "Design City Berlin".
After Shanghai and Beijing, Chengdu has already been the 3rd station of the Berlin in China event series, which was designed to introduce and promote Berlin’s economic highlights and trends in important economic regions and cities in China. In the past, the BBDC already introduced the education and science landscape of Berlin, cooperation opportunities in the e-commerce sector, and Berlin as the Startup Capital of Germany to entrepreneurs in China.
The event "Design City Berlin" was focused on Berlin's design and creative industries, and was held at the Chengdu iF Design Center, where various award-winning works are exhibited around the conference area. Ingrid Delfs, Deputy Consul General from the German Consulate General in Chengdu, gave a welcome address and opened the content-rich night. Ake Rudolf, Head of Strategy at International Design Center Berlin (IDZ), delivered a keynote speech to introduce IDZ and Berlin’s design and creative industries, and Choco presented the story of prespace in Berlin and China and described the influence of both cultures on their work.
Furthermore, in a panel discussion moderated by Alexander Glaser, Markus M. Schneider, Mu Guanhua and Wang Muzhi (on-site) as well as Christopher Bauder and Ulrich Schwarz (from Berlin online) discussed similarities and differences between design concepts and trends as well as opportunities and challenges in the cooperation between China and Germany.
Another highlight of this evening was the designation ceremony for two of our ambassadors, Choco and Alex. We are looking forward to enhance the exchange between Berlin and the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle through our two ambassadors in the coming two years.
