Berlin in China 2022 #1 – Brain City Berlin: Hotspot for Education and R&D - Berlin in China Ambassador Designation Ceremony, March 22, German Centre Beijing.

Since the beginning of this year, Berlin Business Desk China (BBDC) is consolidating its resources and reinforcing the Berlin-China network within the major business hubs in China. On March 22, we were able to present a huge milestone at our Berlin in China event series 2022#1 in Beijing. At that occasion, we have been very happy to grow and move forward together with many old and new friends from the Berlin in China community.

Mr. Tilman Lesche has officially been introduced as Berlin in China Ambassador. During the designation ceremony, Tilman received his certificate together with Berlin Ambassador name cards and badges from Mrs. Yiran Li, Chief Representative of the BBDC. In his inauguration speech, Tilman highlighted his personal and professional background from Berlin and explained how Berlin's educational and scientific research resources have become a major driving force for the economic development of the German capital region.

The designation ceremony has been witnessed by Dr. Rainer Seider, who represented the Berlin State Economic Department and delivered an online video welcome address. Dr. Seider stated that Berlin has become the hot spot for international venture capital, tech-startups, and global enterprises in large parts due to its abundant educational and scientific resources. Furthermore, Dr. Seider invited more corporates and startups from China to start their business in Berlin and to grow within one of the most supportive and innovative business environments worldwide.

During an expert panel, the audience gained further insights about the outstanding research and education ecosystem in Berlin. Prof. Rongping Mu, Director of Center for Innovation and Development, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Dr. Hong He, Head Beijing Office at Helmholtz Association, Ruth Schimanowski, Chief Representative at DAAD Beijing, and Dr. Xiaolong Ma, Chief Representative at Fraunhofer Representative Office Beijing, shared unique viewpoints about how Berlin became an excellent basis for the cooperation between industry and the most tightly woven network of universities and non-university research institutions in all of Germany.

We would like to thank our guests again for joining us in our dialogue with the new Berlin ambassador in China, Mr. Tilman Lesche, and for invigorating the Berlin in China network together with us. We are looking forward to many further initiatives and joint projects in the future.
