Review: Berlin at the Auto Shanghai 2023

  • Events

What a festival of invigorating experiences during our Auto Shanghai 2023 participation this week.

First of all, in numerous discussions and exchanges with Chinese car manufacturers and suppliers onsite, we learned a lot about the ongoing intensification of the economic relations between Germany and China in the automotive sector. Almost every company we approached is already represented or seeking for a closer cooperation with partners in Germany. At the same time, we recognized a lot of interest in the business location Berlin, especially because of its leading role in the new mobility sector, its huge pool of talents and the perfect mix of stakeholders such as traditional OEMs, new mobility startups, automotive suppliers, and software companies.

We have also been very delighted that the Berlin Business Desk China and our guests from Berlin have been invited by the Verband der Automobilindustrie (VDA) e.V to join an exclusive tour around the trade fair to get to know more about the latest innovations at Volkswagen Group, Mercedes-Benz AG, BMW Group, NIO and others in China.

Furthermore, we conducted a high-ranking event on the prestigious media day of the Auto Shanghai with more than 50 participants (title: Berlin - The place to be for future mobility solutions). We sincerely express our thanks to LiangDao for providing the location and helping us to invite VIP guests from the Chinese automotive sector, and to Dr. Xueming Ju, CEO at LiangDao, for his splendid welcome address. A special thanks goes out to General Consul Heltmann for giving us the honour to open the reception with a keynote on the development prospects in the mobility sector in Berlin. Yiran Li outlined the location factors which make Berlin one of the most attractive new mobility locations in Europe, and Sandra Schulze moderated a panel discussion with Dr. Xueming Ju, Scofield Liang (The Drivery), Maren Petry (Berlin Partner), and Florian Otto (NIO), who provided valuable insights and advice regarding the business expansion in Berlin. LiangDao and NIO both stated that an international mindset, combined with authenticity and rapid project development contributed to their success stories in Berlin.

It has been such a fruitful stay full of productive and insightful activities. We want to thank everyone who joined us at the Auto Shanghai and express our thanks again to General Consul Heltmann, LiangDao, the VDA, Berlin Partner, and the Auto Shanghai organizing committee for providing this magnificent platform for Berlin. We are witnessing a lot of friendship and collaboration in China and in Berlin, and we are very excited to see that there are many new initiatives coming up now.

Stay tuned, and don’t hesitate to contact us for further information regarding Berlin and the services of our office.
